Horizon Yachts for Sale
Horizon Yacht, the parent company of Horizon Group, was founded in 1987 by CEO John Lu, who has a deep-rooted passion for boats and a love of the ocean that stems from childhood. After graduating from the National Taiwan Ocean University with a degree in naval architecture, Lu returned to his hometown of Kaohsiung to gain experience in yacht industry. His success as a naval architect led to the decision to establish Horizon Yacht, with the goal to build clients their ultimate dream yacht – a goal that remains unchanged to this day.
The Taiwan yacht industry was prospering when Lu created Horizon; however, from 1987 to 1997, Taiwan’s yachting industry encountered an unexpected recession. During this time, Horizon, unlike many other companies, adjusted its business strategy and in 1989 shifted target markets to Europe, Australia and Asia. Horizon then redeveloped its yacht manufacturing processes, adhering to stringent yacht quality and safety requirements in Europe and Japan, and earned a distinct reputation for building yachts of exceptional quality and value. Horizon’s continual progress and advancements not only established a solid yacht building foundation but also resulted in the company’s ability to prevail over Taiwan’s economic recession.
Through the years, Lu has proved himself a visionary in the yachting industry — in 1993, he recognized a demand for high-value megayachts and began building yachts over 80 feet. However, the Horizon factory encountered limits on production scale, so Lu began focusing on increased production capacity through specialized processes and improving product quality. The decision to officially enter the megayacht market was a notable milestone for Horizon and moved the company forward as a luxury yacht builder.
Lu continued expanding Horizon in the following years: from 2000 to 2005, he restructured Horizon’s other three companies – Atech Composites, Vision Yachtsand Premier Yacht — and assigned each its own build concentration. The original Horizon Yacht company was also redeveloped to build a more comprehensive range of yachts. Lu then formed Horizon Group as the cohesive organization that interconnects the four companies and allows for the exchange of ideas and resources. In 2007, the Horizon Group Management center was established to help oversee and organize the Horizon Group network.
Since its inception in 1987, Horizon has emerged as the leading Asian yacht brand in the luxury megayacht market and is known throughout the industry for its sophisticated craftsmanship, superior build techniques, and innovative technology. Horizon also contributes to one-third of the Taiwan yacht industry total export quantity and has elevated Taiwan as one of the world’s top five luxury megayacht building nations. Horizon has been honored as “Best Asian Motor Yacht Builder” 6 years in a row and is the first and only member of SYBAss (Superyacht Builder’s Association) from the Far East.

With Horizon’s quality assurance system, every vessel is subject to stringent, continuous inspections at every stage of the build, from initial lay-up, fit and finish to the engineering systems. Beginning with the earliest design stage, various tests are implemented to examine the build and make sure the vessel meets specific requirements before proceeding to the next stage. The tank test checks the hull design, stability and integrity; the material tests confirm the hull strength; the sea trial ensures the performance, durability and safety; the power and equipment setup before delivery assures delivery of vessels with fully operational systems; and the ERP computer system carefully and efficiently manages this process for every yacht built, ensuring no step is missed.
In addition, each of the four Horizon facilities are independently ISO 9002 approved, utilizing the most advanced technologies to assure quality in every production process. With over 20 years of accumulated naval architecture skill and yacht building experience, Horizon’s quality is enjoyed by many new and returning clients and is recognized by the world’s major classification societies, including Lloyd’s Register (LR), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Nippon Kaij Kyokai (NK) and many more. Horizon is currently the only yacht builder in Asia that has obtained full DNV Class Classifications. Building to class has become a standard process in Horizon’s manufacturing, especially on the custom megayacht P Series vessels. Owning a Horizon will provide not only a distinguished yachting lifestyle but also peace of mind when out on the open sea.
